Medical Detox and Detoxification
Detox is often the first step in the recovery journey. At Align Recovery Centers, our detox program helps individuals manage the discomfort and risks associated with withdrawal.
Align Recovery provides medically supervised detox, along with medication support when clinically appropriate. We offer 24/7 nursing at Align, and medical oversight is integral to our program. Align’s typical 6–7-day detox timeframe allows time for clients to stabilize and prepare for a transition to residential treatment safely.
Coverage may be available depending on the plan and medical necessity.
Aftercare and Continuing Recovery Services
Our aftercare for life program provides several step‑down options. They include sober living (SLE), IOP, PHP, and outpatient therapy referrals only. Other services include an assigned counselor, a clients-only app, support groups, family follow‑up, and community recovery resources.
Medication support and follow-up continue until clients leave with a limited 15—30—day supply, plus prescription referrals through a local PCP.
Cigna may cover the above services, but you must check your individual plan to confirm which benefits apply.
Residential Treatment
Align Recovery’s residential program provides clients with a supported, structured environment rooted in a therapy-forward model. Our clients receive individual and group therapy, where they practice skill-building alongside their peers.
Along with individual and group therapy, our program offers experiential therapies and holistic activities that focus on healing addiction. Family-related therapies include a weekly family dynamics group, couples and family therapy sessions, and clinician-assisted on‑site family visits on Sundays.
Some Cigna plans may cover residential treatment at Align Recovery Centers when specific criteria are met.
Outpatient Rehab, IOP, and PHP
Discharge planning begins on day 1 of treatment at Align Recovery. While we do not offer outpatient treatment, our step-down options include referrals only for possible placement in outpatient rehab. They include IOP/intensive outpatient programs and PHP/partial hospitalization programs.
What Substance Use Disorders Can Be Treated With Cigna Coverage?
Align treats a range of substance use disorders (SUDs) through detox and residential treatment. Coverage depends on the member’s plan and required clinical criteria. These SUDs include but are not limited to the following:
Alcohol and Drug Use Disorders
Align Recovery offers treatment for alcohol use disorder, as well as various substance use disorders. They include central nervous system stimulants like cocaine, opioids (including heroin), and marijuana. We also have treatment plans tailored to prescription drugs, such as oxycodone, adderall, fentanyl, or Percocet. Benzodiazepines, methamphetamine, MDMA/ecstasy, and psychedelics, including LSD, are also treated.
Opioid Use Disorder and Medication-Assisted Treatment
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is part of Align’s medical detox program that is often used to treat opioid use disorder. Our medication management includes Suboxone when clinically appropriate, benzodiazepines such as lorazepam/Ativan for alcohol/benzo withdrawal, and Gabapentin.
Align utilizes a newer medication approach during opioid withdrawal using an N‑Acetyl L‑Cysteine supplement and Lucemyra (lofexidine) prescription medication, administered early to reduce withdrawal risk before initiating Suboxone.
Please note that Cigna does not cover a specific medication or protocol for MAT.
Treatment for Complex or Recurrent Substance Use
Our individualized approach to treatment is geared to a range of clients, including those with polysubstance use (using multiple substances at once). Clients with a higher risk of chronic relapse may also need to have co-occurring conditions or complicated treatment histories addressed during treatment.
Cigna Coverage for Dual Diagnosis Treatment
At Align Recovery, we believe that addiction is an expression of co‑occurring mental health conditions. We treat the root causes of addiction through specialized dual diagnosis treatment. We treat underlying issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder, and PTSD to prevent relapse risk and support lasting success.
Under U.S. federal law, insurance companies must offer mental health and behavioral health treatment coverage comparable to physical health care. This means that Cigna rehab coverage also extends to mental health services, ensuring that individuals with dual diagnoses receive comprehensive care at Align Recovery Centers.

Trauma-Informed and Experiential Therapies
At Align, trauma-specific therapy also includes holistic activities such as mindfulness, yoga, and Qigong. Clients can also participate in art therapy, music therapy, and dance as part of expressive arts activities.
Family Therapy and Family Support
Family support is central to Align Recovery Center’s treatment programs. We provide a weekly family education dynamics group to educate loved ones on treatment terms and levels of care, such as SLE, IOP, and PHP. We also provide couples and family therapy after week 2, if desired, and maintain clinician-supported family involvement through weekly on-site family visits.
Medication Management and MAT
Clients receive ongoing medication management by our staff of professionals through medication-assisted treatment (MAT) when clinically indicated. Medications include Suboxone, Benzodiazepines (lorazepam/Ativan for alcohol/benzo withdrawal), and Gabapentin. Clients may also receive Methocarbamol for muscle pain, Hydroxyzine for anxiety, Clonidine for blood pressure, and Ondansetron/Zofran for nausea.
