Kratom Detox and Addiction Treatment in California

Our kratom detox treatment program for adults 18+ focuses on medically-assisted detox to manage kratom withdrawal symptoms, which are similar to those of opioids, including muscle aches, insomnia, and anxiety.

Kratom (Mitragyna Speciosa) is a plant-based substance originating in Southeast Asia that acts as a stimulant in low doses and an opioid at high doses. Repeated kratom use can affect opioid receptors, mood, sleep, and overall well-being. Our detox program treats adults who are struggling with escalating kratom use or experiencing withdrawal symptoms, polysubstance use, chronic pain-related misuse, opioid overlap (taking kratom along with opioids or opiates), or co-occurring anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and chronic stress.

Align Recovery Centers offers medically assisted detox on-site, followed by residential addiction treatment programs with integrated therapy, behavioral health support, and recovery planning. Our professional, caring staff provides on-site and virtual medication supervision and specialty oversight, including addiction medicine, psychiatry, therapy, and family support services.

A Family-Style Recovery Environment in California

Our team offers our clients personalized, integrated care in a warm, structured, non-institutional atmosphere that emphasizes work and accountability over “luxury” positioning. Our facilities are located in a historic stone building set on 2+ acres. Clients can enjoy outdoor spaces and quiet rooms, including a library and recreation room in a restorative environment designed to reduce stress and support healing.

We are proud to be known as a mom-and-pop shop with a staff that cares by showing individualized attention – our clients never feel like a number. Our priorities include providing emotional safety, respectful communication, non-punitive treatment approaches, and individualized support to all our clients. Clients have access to healthy meals and holistic activities, such as mindfulness, yoga, recreation, expressive therapies, and routines that support physical and emotional stabilization during detox and residential care.

Program Highlights of Kratom Addiction Treatment

Our programs combine medically supervised detox with individualized, evidence‑based therapies and holistic supports to safely manage withdrawal and address the underlying causes of kratom abuse. Treatment includes dual‑diagnosis care, medication‑assisted options when appropriate, and experiential therapies to promote sustained recovery.

Medical Detox With 24/7 Nursing Support

Our 6 -to 7-day medically supervised detox program monitors and manages kratom withdrawal symptoms while providing medication management, stabilization, and individualized detox plans. The program includes 24/7 nursing care and medical oversight by board‑certified psychiatry, neurology, and addiction medicine specialists.

Therapy and Emotional Processing During Early Recovery

Medical detox is combined with therapy for co-occurring mental health conditions. Early on, our clients receive trauma‑informed, evidence‑based care that includes individual and group therapy, along with psychoeducation, to provide comprehensive, well-rounded treatment.

Co-Occurring Mental Health Support

We believe that addiction is an expression of co‑occurring mental health disorders. Our treatment program uses dual diagnosis treatment approaches to address underlying issues and find the root cause of addiction, prevent relapse, and support lasting recovery.

Co-occurring mental health conditions commonly associated with substance use disorders include anxiety, depression, PTSD, chronic stress, and emotional dysregulation.

Holistic and Experiential Therapies

In addition to traditional therapeutic modalities, clients have access to holistic and experiential therapies, such as yoga, Qigong, mindfulness, expressive arts, recreation, music therapy, and wellness-focused recovery support.

Medication-Assisted Treatment When Appropriate

Our detox program includes medication-assisted treatment that combines the use of medications with counseling and behavioral therapies. Medications during detoxification include Suboxone, while making sure to time the first dose to avoid precipitated withdrawal before stabilizing and tapering.

Other approved medications for kratom detox include benzodiazepines, such as lorazepam (Ativan). For alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal, we may use Gabapentin, Methocarbamol for muscle pain, Hydroxyzine for anxiety, Clonidine for blood pressure, and ondansetron (Zofran) for nausea.

Our unique approach uses an N‑Acetyl L‑Cysteine supplement + Lucemyra (lofexidine). This treatment is administered early to reduce withdrawal health risks before initiating Suboxone and/or Buprenorphine to avoid precipitated withdrawal.

What Daily Life Looks Like During Kratom Detox and Residential Treatment

Align Recovery Center’s medical detox and residential treatment programs allow clients to find structure and daily support while exploring evidence-based therapies that foster recovery and promote wellness on their healing journey.

Structured Mornings Focused on Stability

After receiving breakfast at 8 AM, along with medication check-ins, clients attend a 9 AM goals group where they set a small, achievable objective for the day.

Therapy-Focused Afternoons

After lunch at 12 PM, clients can take part in intensive therapy that includes several types of therapy, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and Conscious Recovery.

Afternoons include experiential and expressive arts groups, such as art, yoga, music, and Qigong, to help clients gain a deeper, more intuitive understanding and processing of the emotions tied to addiction.

Evenings Centered on Reflection and Community

In the evening, clients can join various process groups, enjoy shared meals at 5 PM, attend recovery meetings, or just enjoy relaxation time and supportive peer interaction to help them reflect on their day.

A Recovery Environment That Balances Structure and Flexibility

Our philosophy is focused on providing staff engagement, warmth, and individualized attention to all our clients through a combination of structure and flexibility. Detox and inpatient programs center around accountability and therapeutic engagement for each client without creating an overly rigid or punitive atmosphere.

Mental Health and Substance Use Conditions We Treat

Our clinicians treat both the addiction and any underlying psychiatric symptoms to support safer detox, evidence‑based treatment, and lasting recovery.

Kratom Dependence and Polysubstance Use

Use of kratom often occurs alongside opioid, stimulant, alcohol, and prescription drug misuse. This is often due to individuals using kratom to manage chronic pain or ease opioid withdrawal symptoms. Those with a physical dependence on kratom can have a higher chance of chronic relapse.

Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma

Co-occurring mental health conditions commonly exist for those experiencing substance use disorder, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Receiving trauma-informed treatment through personalized, integrated care at accredited addiction treatment centers is recommended for individuals looking for kratom rehab.

Chronic Stress and Emotional Burnout

Professionals, caregivers, and individuals using substances to cope with chronic pressure or emotional exhaustion are particularly vulnerable to kratom misuse. For this reason, it’s crucial for detox and treatment to occur while under the supervision of medical professionals.

Opioid and Prescription Drug Addiction

Other addictions, such as heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioids, can naturally overlap with the withdrawal patterns and side effects of kratom.

When to Seek Professional Help for Kratom Withdrawal

If kratom use is causing physical or emotional distress, it is time to seek professional help to ensure a safe, medically supervised detox experience. Early intervention reduces risks of complications, relapse, and worsening co‑occurring mental health symptoms.

Physical Symptoms That May Require Medical Support

Kratom withdrawal symptoms can include insomnia, nausea, cravings, sweating, elevated heart rate, muscle aches, and dehydration, which may worsen over time. Getting professional help is the safest way to detox from kratom while getting the support needed to ease symptoms.

Emotional and Psychological Warning Signs

Use of kratom can also lead to emotional and psychological signs of addiction, such as anxiety, depression, irritability, isolation, mood instability, and difficulty functioning without kratom.

When Detoxing Alone Increases Risk

Deciding to detox alone increases the risk of relapse, especially for those who experience polysubstance use (using more than one substance at the same time). It can also worsen existing mental health symptoms, making it challenging to manage withdrawal symptoms independently.

Choose Align Recovery Centers to find comprehensive treatment in a safe, supported medically-assisted detox for kratom abuse.

FAQs

What is kratom withdrawal like?

Kratom withdrawal symptoms include muscle aches, insomnia, and mood changes. These side effects are similar to those experienced by opioid users. However, kratom withdrawal is usually less intense and shorter-lived than opioid withdrawal, depending on dosage and frequency. Medically-assisted programs for drug abuse at a kratom detox center are the safest option for withdrawal.

Symptoms of kratom detox typically appear within 12-48 hours after stopping use. They usually last 1-3 days, though they can sometimes last up to a week.

Yes, the active alkaloids in kratom (including mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine) directly activate mu-opioid receptors in the brain. This causes physiological effects similar to opioids, including pain relief and euphoria.

Common medications include Suboxone and benzodiazepines such as lorazepam (Ativan). Other medications used to treat substance abuse may include Gabapentin, Methocarbamol for muscle pain, Hydroxyzine for anxiety, Clonidine for blood pressure, and ondansetron (Zofran) for nausea.

Yes, Align Recovery Centers is in-network with many major insurance providers and also accepts all insurance plans with out-of-network benefits.

Bring comfortable, casual clothing, your photo ID, insurance cards, and a 30-day supply of any approved prescription medications. It’s also a good idea to bring toiletries and any personal items you would like to keep with you when at a rehab center, while leaving any valuables at home.

Yes, clients participate in a weekly virtual family dynamics group, virtual support groups, and Sunday family visits. The weekly dynamics group takes place on Wednesday evenings, while the virtual family therapy sessions are available after week two. On‑site family visits on Sundays include clinicians to manage conflicts and facilitate conversation.
