Morphine Detox Center in California

The process of morphine detox occurs when the body clears morphine while trying to manage intense withdrawal symptoms. Symptoms of morphine withdrawal can be dangerous, uncomfortable, and in rare cases, life-threatening without medical supervision.

Align Recovery Centers’ 6-7 day medical detox program, with a therapy-forward approach, safely treats morphine dependence for adults through 24/7 nursing and medical oversight. Detoxification addresses physical stabilization, while ongoing treatment addresses the underlying causes of substance use disorder and opioid addiction, along with co-occurring mental health conditions.

Though detox is not mandatory before residential care, it can help clients smoothly transition into residential treatment when appropriate.

A Safe, Supportive Detox Center for Healing

Our treatment facility in Sonoma offers a home-like environment and family-style culture. We are situated in a historic stone building on over 2 acres in a peaceful and supportive setting. Clients have access to a large backyard, recreation room, and library, along with private areas where they can reflect each day.

Our clients are treated like people – not numbers. We view the recovery process as rebuilding stability “one steady step at a time,” rather than simply removing substances, which is why our team prioritizes individualized attention and warmth for each client’s needs.

Take the First Step Toward Recovery

Choosing medical detox for morphine addiction is a powerful first step toward breaking physical dependence and beginning recovery in a safe, supportive environment. With compassionate care and 24/7 medical supervision, clients can manage withdrawal symptoms and build a strong foundation for lasting healing.

Treatment Options for Morphine Addiction

We offer medically assisted detox, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT), as well as evidence-based therapies, to help our clients transition to residential treatment and support them throughout their recovery journey.

Medically Assisted Detox

Our medical detox program typically lasts 6-7 days, with 7 days preferred for tapering. During detox, clients receive 24/7 nursing and medical oversight to manage withdrawal symptoms.

Transition to Residential Treatment Following Detox

Upon completion of our medically-assisted detox program, clients can smoothly transition into residential care. Residential treatment provides a structured level of care for clients who require continued stabilization and support following detox.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medications for opioid addiction with counseling and behavioral therapies. Common medications used to ease morphine withdrawals and support long-term recovery include Suboxone and naloxone.

Buprenorphine is also used to treat opioid use disorder (OUD) by binding to opioid receptors in the brain to safely ease withdrawal symptoms. In specialized cases, methadone may also be used, which stabilizes brain chemistry and blocks the euphoric effects of opioids.

Our MAT protocol also includes an opioid‑specific approach, consisting of an N‑Acetyl L‑Cysteine supplement + Lucemyra (lofexidine) prescription medication administered early to reduce withdrawal risk before initiating Suboxone (to avoid precipitated withdrawal).

Evidence-Based Therapies & Behavioral Health Support

Evidence-based therapies offered to clients include CBT and DBT. CBT helps clients identify harmful thought patterns, develop healthy coping strategies, and build a strong foundation for long-term recovery. DBT seeks to help clients recognize the tension between opposites and welcome the need for personal growth and change. Clients also receive continued support through trauma therapy, experiential activities, such as mindfulness, and both family and group therapy.

Community & Peer Support

Our clients find the peer support they need while building a network within the recovery community. They have continued access to group meetings, alumni events like Friendsgiving celebrations, and ongoing accountability as they navigate the often challenging path to long-term healing from addiction.

Why Seeking Early Treatment Matters

Attempting to detox without medical supervision is associated with an increased risk of overdose deaths and relapses. Seeking early treatment for addiction can help prevent substance use from worsening, reduce the risk of serious health and personal consequences, and support a stronger foundation for long-term recovery.

Benefits of Our Morphine Detox Program

Our medically-assisted detox program offers clients medication management, 24/7 nursing care, medical oversight, and ongoing clinical support throughout the recovery process.

Family Support & Education

We provide clients with a weekly virtual family dynamics group on Wednesday evenings. Clients and their loved ones can receive education on treatment terms and levels of care, such as sober-living environment (SLE), intensive outpatient program (IOP), and partial hospitalization program (PHP).

Medication Management & Care Coordination

Medication support during detox continues during residential treatment for clients, who leave with a limited 15-30-day supply, along with referrals for ongoing prescribing by a primary care physician (PCP) or local provider.

Holistic & Experiential Therapies

In addition to evidence-based therapies, clients also take part in holistic activities, such as yoga, Qigong, expressive arts, mindfulness, nutrition, recreation, and wellness support.

Discharge Planning & Aftercare Support

Discharge planning begins during week one of treatment. Clients discuss typical step‑down options with our team, including referrals for sober living, IOP, PHP, and outpatient therapy. Aftercare services also consist of additional alumni support, such as an assigned counselor, a client-facing app for follow‑up, group therapy, alumni events/reunions, and virtual/in-person family follow‑up.

FAQs

How long does morphine detox take?

Morphine detox typically takes 5 to 10 days for acute physical withdrawal symptoms to stabilize. Psychological symptoms can last for several weeks. The specific timeframe depends on the amount of morphine regularly taken, the length of use, the extent of physical and psychological dependence, and an individual’s overall health.

Morphine withdrawal symptoms often peak between 48 and 72 hours after ceasing to take the substance. Early signs of withdrawal include anxiety, restlessness, sweating, and muscle aches, while the most intense symptoms include severe muscle cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rapid heart rate, and chills. Symptoms typically resolve after approximately 5 to 10 days.

Detoxification is only the first step in treating opioid addiction. Detox clears the substance from the body and manages withdrawal symptoms. Without further follow-up treatment, there is a higher risk of overdose and relapse.

Treating morphine through the use of agonists is considered the best treatment option. Agonists are safe, long-acting opioid medications such as buprenorphine or methadone that stimulate the brain’s opioid receptors without producing a high. Use of agonists helps reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings during the detox process.

It is not recommended to detox from morphine at home because of an increased risk of relapse and medical complications. The safest option is to receive medically supervised detox in an accredited facility such as Align Recovery Centers.
