Why We’re the Best Detox Center for Cocaine Addiction

We support our clients during cocaine detox. Detoxing from cocaine involves the process of clearing cocaine from the body while safely managing withdrawal symptoms.  Detoxification addresses physical stabilization, while ongoing treatment addresses the underlying causes of substance abuse and opioid addiction. The best detox for cocaine involves medical supervision, because cocaine withdrawal alone can be risky and difficult.

At Align Recovery, our 6–7-day medically assisted detox program provides 24/7 nursing and medical oversight. Detox includes a therapy-focused approach to address co-occurring mental health conditions. Though detox is not mandatory before residential care, it allows clients to transition into residential treatment when appropriate smoothly.

A Supportive Detox Environment Dedicated to Long-Term Recovery

Align Recovery’s 45-bed facility offers a family‑style setting for our clients in a historical stone building on 2+ acres in Northern California. Our clients enjoy plenty of quiet, private areas, a large backyard, a recreation room, and a library in a home-like environment.

Clients at Align Recovery Centers are treated like people—not numbers. Our compassionate, professional staff offers individualized attention and warmth to reflect our philosophy that recovery is similar to rebuilding a home, “one steady step at a time,” and not just the process of removing substances. We support each person as a whole individual while on their path to recovery.

Knowing When to Seek Help for Cocaine Addiction

When struggling with a cocaine addiction, early recognition and intervention are key. Though the detection window for cocaine through urine and blood tests (plus hair tests) is typically 2— 4 days, it can remain in the system for up to 90 days. Metabolites such as benzoylecgonine or Ecgonine methyl ester are used to identify cocaine in the system during drug tests.

Some warning signs for cocaine misuse can include the following:

  • Increased talkativeness or social behavior
  • Higher levels of energy and alertness
  • Decreased appetite or weight loss
  • Overconfidence or grandiosity
  • Frequent nasal congestion or nosebleeds
  • Paranoia or heightened anxiety
  • Financial difficulties due to purchasing the drug
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia such as razor blades, mirrors, or rolled bills

Why Cocaine Detox Matters

In San Francisco in 2022, 647 accidental overdose deaths occurred. An overdose of cocaine poses a significant life-threatening risk and has a high risk of relapse. Effective treatment for cocaine addiction begins with medically supervised detox—our comprehensive approach to cocaine detox is tailored to each individual’s needs.

If someone is experiencing a cocaine overdose, call 911 right away. Supportive treatment includes cooling the body and administering IV fluids, along with medications like benzodiazepines, to calm the brain and heart.

FAQs

How long does cocaine detox take?

Cocaine detox lasts an average of between 7 and 10 days.

The detox timeline depends on factors such as the intensity and duration of use or the individual’s health conditions. At Align Recovery, our medically assisted detox takes 6— 7 days, with 7 days preferred to allow for a gradual tapering.

There are no specific FDA-approved medications for cocaine detoxification.

Medications may be administered to manage withdrawal symptoms, including fatigue and exhaustion, sleep disturbances, including insomnia and hypersomnia, increased appetite, anxiety and panic attacks, irritability, and mood swings. Because cocaine is a powerful central nervous system stimulant, it causes a buildup of dopamine in the brain. Medications may be used to target dopamine in addition to managing withdrawal and reducing cravings.

Yes, health insurance typically covers cocaine detoxification.

Substance use disorder services are considered essential health benefits under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Most private plans, marketplace insurance, and Medicaid cover medical detox, but out-of-pocket costs can vary.
